Perfect Preparation Prevents Poor Performance

Something Iv'e been lacking lately.....

West London Schumacher BTCC

After a horrid Cotswolds National two weeks ago I was very keen to quickly get back on track at the BTCC this weekend.

My self and team mate Matt Chandler headed to the track on saturday to get some serious testing done.  When we arrived it was overcast but the track was dry, a little green but traction was improving.  By the end of saturday the car was really good after a lot of setup changes that proved good.  I only ran used tyres on the saturday and by the end of the day I had posted the 5th fastest time and lap time which I was pretty happy with as I was confident with a slight change to tyre prep and fresher tyres my pace would have been even better.  The thunder power motor and Hpi Esc provided really good horsepower with a top speed of 55.5mph on the West London track :-)

On sunday the rain came and didn't go away.  In round one my car was okay but I had a very slow start and the lap time did't come down until about 5 laps in.  I didn't make a mistake but was fairly inconsistent at driving at full pace, however I was able to post a 5th in the round which was okay as banker score, but I wanted to improve with some changes to setup :-).

Then it all went wrong.  The electrical issues started and my car shut down in the 2nd qualifier and hit the armco at full speed completely bending the chassis.  I was able to straighten it back to somewhere near normal after a lot of de tweaking but the same happened in Q3.  By Q4 I had made a big effort with increasing waterproofing and my car felt pretty good and I was running in 4th until 4:30 into the race the I lost drive and then the car went down the main straight at full speed into the barrier AGAIN.  This time it was game over and I was forced to retire from the finals.

To summarise, Im happy with the car in the dry and If its dry at the national then hopefully I can be pretty competitive.  The wet car needs serious work to waterproofing, but the setup was in the ball park.  I like to take the BTCC championship pretty seriously as I enjoy event and it has a good following, so I was annoyed to miss out on the A main by failures.

Im hoping soon my luck will change
